KLT Outdoor Ed Place at the Idaho Forestry Contest

When Dave Kretzschmar, KLT’s Outdoor Education program manager, threw out the challenge to his students from two elementary schools and one High School to learn forestry skills so they could attend the 30th annual Idaho Forestry competition; no one could have imagined the result.

Seeing the excitement from his students, Dave approached the KLT team to see how many kids we could send to the contest, perhaps a dozen? Possibly two dozen?

After a lot of hard work and dedication on behalf of the schools, the students and our KLT Education team, 130 youth from our Outdoor Ed program were able to attend the Forestry competition.

Though everyone thought that getting this many youth to the competition would be the frosting on the cake, it came as quite a surprise when we learned students from one of our Elementary schools took a 2nd and 3rd place in the individual rookie competition.

Not only did our students learn a lot about the forests around their community, they had a blast at the event AND took home a 3rd place trophy.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible
