Last spring, Sandpoint Nordic Club and Kaniksu Land Trust received a grant from the Blue Cross Foundation to build an outdoor recreation center at Pine Street Woods. Inspired by a community survey showing that most of our community was struggling to get outdoors during the winter, KLT and SNC believe that this outdoor recreation center will make it easier for everyone to experience the health benefits linked to time spent outdoors, no matter the weather.
Pine Street Woods community forest, 180 acres of woodlands and meadows minutes from Sandpoint and adjacent to the popular “Sherwood Forest,” provides a place where everyone can freely and frequently enjoy quiet recreation in nature. With trails for walking, hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, Pine Street Woods will be open year-round.
The outdoor recreation center aims to be your home base for exploring nature. It will become a place for warming toes after cross country skiing, renting snowshoes for a snowy walk in the woods or enjoying a quiet spring afternoon sitting on the porch watching the sun shine down on the meadow.
This very special building needs a very special name. That’s where you come in. We are looking to our community to come up with a creative name to call our new home. We invite you to submit names and what inspired the name. We are excited to see what you come up with, and even more excited to open this space up for our entire community!
