Community Partnerships

It is Kaniksu Land Trust’s belief that healthy lands and healthy people are intrinsically linked, and that we must create and support programs designed to improve health in our community. Innovative programs like StoryWalk™, an activity for pre-K to fourth graders that links nature and literacy, and Outside7B, which encourages famlies to get outside,  extend KLT’s impact beyond traditional conservation.

Community Partnerships

Kaniksu Land Trust is proud to be one of many non-profits in our area. To maximize our impact we partner with a number of other organizations to support the needs of our community, including:

Lake Pend Oreille School District # 84: KLT is proud to work with five local elementary schools, two high schools, and the Home School Academy to provide in-school educational programs for local students.

Mountain States Early Head Start: KLT leads walks and outdoor engagement activities for parents enrolled in “Circle of Security” support group.

Kinderhaven: KLT provides, free of charge, our out-of-school programs to children at Sandpoint’s emergency shelter.

Food for Our Children and Bonner Community Food Bank: These organizations support the nourishment requirements of participants in KLT's programs, providing nutritious food for them.

The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint: KLT partners to present “Nature of Music, Music in Nature,” a program that works with 25 students, spending time outside to learn how composers have been inspired by the sounds of nature.

Boy Scouts of America, Troop 111: We've partnered with the Boy Scouts to install our StoryWalks.

KLT also partners with the East Bonner County Library on Bonner County StoryWalks. To learn more about this partnership, click here.

KLT has also worked extensively with the Sandpoint Department of Parks and Recreation

Institutional Partners

KLT strives to be a leader in the land trust industry. To support that goal we work with a number of groups including Heart of the Rockies Initiative, the Idaho Coalition of Land Trusts, the Montana Association of Land Trusts, and the Land Trust Alliance. KLT also works with partners such as the University of Idaho and the Cities of Dover, Sandpoint and Ponderay.
