COMMUNITY: StoryWalk™

It is Kaniksu Land Trust’s belief that healthy lands and healthy people are intrinsically linked, and that we must create and support programs designed to improve health in our community. Innovative programs like StoryWalk™, an activity for pre-K to fourth graders that links nature and literacy, and Outside7B, which encourages famlies to get outside,  extend KLT’s impact beyond traditional conservation.

Where stories take you places…

Bonner County StoryWalk™ is a collaboration between Kaniksu Land Trust and the East Bonner County Library District. StoryWalks are a fun and unique way to get outside and moving, while enjoying a story. A StoryWalk™ is a trail that has pages of a children’s book placed in kiosks along the length of the trail, thus encouraging exercise and literacy. Bonner County StoryWalks are located in Dover City Park, McNearney Park in Ponderay and at Northside Elementary School. Each StoryWalk is a short loop, and titles are updated monthly.

The StoryWalk™ Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
